A Guide to Decorative Bulbs — Edison, LED, Filament

The light bulb has ceased to be merely a source of light — in many interiors it is a fully fledged decorative element. Today the market offers dozens of shapes, tints and technologies. Here is how to find your way around them.

Edison — a classic with soul

Edison-style bulbs hark back to the earliest designs from the beginning of the 20th century. The distinctive, clearly visible filament gives a warm, amber light with an intimate character. It is the choice for lamps without a shade, where the bulb plays first fiddle.

LED filament — retro looks, tomorrow's technology

Filament LEDs imitate the filament of a classic bulb, yet consume a fraction of the energy and last up to 25,000 hours. They come in clear, opal and gold-tinted versions. For vintage-style interiors we recommend versions with a temperature of 2200–2500 K.

What to look for when buying

Beyond shape and style, three parameters matter: colour temperature (the lower it is, the warmer the light), the colour rendering index CRI (preferably above 90) and dimming capability. Not every LED works with a dimmer — look for the “dimmable” marking.

Our lamps use E27 and E14 sockets, so you can choose a bulb that suits your interior exactly.
