How to Choose Lighting for a Loft-Style Interior

Loft style was born in New York factories converted into apartments — and to this day it draws on that heritage: raw brick, concrete, steel and large glazing. In such an interior, lighting plays a double role. It is a source of the warmth that cool materials do not provide on their own, and a strong decorative accent.

Go for metal and glass

Lofts favour lamps whose construction needs no disguise. Pendants with shades of black or graphite sheet metal, brass details, exposed cords in textile braiding — all of this underlines the industrial character of the space. It is worth choosing fixtures with a clear, geometric silhouette that look good even when switched off.

Spot lighting instead of one powerful lamp

High ceilings tempt you to hang a single large chandelier — but a loft likes layers. Instead, distribute the light across zones: a row of pendants above the table, a wall light by the brick wall, a floor lamp next to the sofa. That way, in the evening the interior does not turn into a factory hall but into a cosy, intimate space.

Colour temperature matters

Pair raw materials with warm light, around 2700 K. Cooler shades will emphasise the chill of concrete and steel, which can make the interior feel unwelcoming. Decorative bulbs with a visible filament are a loft classic — they play beautifully with metal fixtures and need no shade.

If you are looking for fixtures that can carry the loft character, take a look at our collection of pendant lamps — we design them with soulful interiors in mind.
